During the 9th century BC, the commercial contacts of the Greeks with the East gave a boost to the art of the goldsmith. The photograph shows a gold necklace from a grave in Tekes, Knossos, c. 800 BC. The motifs and the shape of its parts are reminiscent of eastern models and of the Syro-Palestinian art in particular.
