After many failed attempts of the Turks to conquer Rhodes, in 1522 Suleiman the Magnificent conquered the city after it had besieged it, thus putting an end to the rule of the Knights Hospitallers. On the picture, miniature representing the siege of Rhodes (1480) by the Turks. 15th century.
